Sokoto Govt to construct Layin Gidan Bello Dan Baba Road From Shehu M. Wamakko The Sokoto State Government has announced plans to  construct the dilapidated Layin Gidan Bello Dan Baba Road in Waziri C Ward, Sokoto North Local Government Area. Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto made the announcement on Saturday evening during a condolence visit to the family of the late popular Islamic poet, Musa Mai Akwai Gidadawa. The visit was part of the governor’s ongoing condolence visits to bereaved families across Sokoto metropolis. Aliyu expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the road, saying he was touched by what he saw during the visit. He assured residents of the area that the government would take steps to address the situation. “I have seen the deplorable condition of this road and, frankly speaking, I am touched by what I saw,” the governor said. The call was part of a 7-point communiqué issued at the end of its monthly Congress held on Saturday, 19th September, 2026, at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru Road, Sokoto. In the communiqué jointly signed by the Chairman, Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji and Secretary, Muhammad Nasir Bello, the Council reaffirmed the pivotal role of journalism as a pillar of democracy and charged journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy, fairness and independence. SOKOTO GOVT SPENDS N1BN ON DIGITAL EQUIPMENT FOR RIMA RADIO, TV — MD From Bashir Rabe Mani, Sokoto  The Managing Director, Sokoto State Media Corporation, Alhaji Labaran Lumo Dundaye, has disclosed that the Sokoto State Government has expended over N1 billion on the provision of ultramodern digital facilities for state-owned broadcast stations. Dundaye spoke on Saturday in Sokoto at the monthly Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, held at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru Road. He said the digital facilities provided for RIMA Radio, RIMA FM and RIMA Television included two transmitters, editing suites, cameras and other related modern equipment. NUJ SOKOTO TO HOLD MONTHLY CONGRESS The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, will hold its monthly Congress on Saturday, 19th September, 2026 at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru Road, Sokoto by 9:00 a.m. prompt. The Congress will focus on the theme: “Journalism and Political Campaigns: Between Public Interest and Political Influence.” The Guest Lecturer for the occasion is Professor Tanko Yahaya Baba of the Department of Political Science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The Congress is expected to bring together journalists and media practitioners to examine the role of journalism in democratic governance, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
