Community In Sokoto Commend Gov, Ahmad Aliyu For Constructing Earth Dam In Their Area

Residents of Sandaga Community in Gidan Katta Ward, Illela Local Government Area, have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, for responding to their long-standing cry over persistent flooding through the construction of a large earth dam in their area.
The appreciation was conveyed by the Councillor for Works in Illela Local Government, Hon. Yusuf Usman Muhammad, during the inspection visit of the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nura Shehu Tangaza, to the ongoing project site.
Hon. Yusuf Usman Muhammad noted that for several years, the community suffered severe flooding that destroyed farmlands and houses annually.
He said their earlier appeal to the State Government has now yielded positive results, adding that “the effort has truly paid off.”
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nura Shehu Tangaza, stated that the purpose of his visit was to assess the level of progress and ensure that the project was being executed according to specifications.
He commended the contractors for the quality of work done so far and urged them to sustain the tempo to ensure timely completion.
Hon. Tangaza explained that the project was awarded by the Sokoto State Government about three to four months ago as part of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto’s commitment to providing lasting solutions to flood-related challenges across the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of the work done so far, emphasizing that the project would go a long way in mitigating flood risks and protecting the livelihoods of residents.
Providing technical updates, the Director of Flood and Erosion Control, Malam Mansur Yahaya, disclosed that the project has reached about 60 percent completion and highlighted its numerous benefits to the community, including improved water management and enhanced agricultural productivity.
