Gov. Idris Approves ₦1.4bn For School Furniture, ₦900m take-off Grant For Bureau of Statistics

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has on Wednesday  approved the release of ₦1.4 billion for the procurement of assorted school furniture across the state as part of his administration’s continuous efforts to improve the education sector.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, disclosed this to journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by  Governor Idris.

Barrister Maccido explained that the Governor, being a core educationist and a veteran classroom teacher by profession, remains deeply committed to revitalizing  education sector, which he regards as his primary constituency.

“There is  serious shortage of furniture in many of our schools, including those within the state capital and across 21 local government areas.

''By the sheer grace and commitment of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris,  approved and signed a contract for the supply of school furniture worth ₦1.4 billion. 

''This initiative will go a long way in improving the learning environment and raising the educational standards across the state,” he said.

In a related development, Gov. Idris has also approved the release of ₦900 million as  take-off grant for the newly established Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abba Sani Kalgo, made this known while briefing newsmen after the council meeting. 

He said the grant would facilitate effective data collection and collation to support the administration’s development agenda.

“You may recall that His Excellency recently signed into law the establishment of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics.

" This administration firmly believes that you cannot change what you cannot measure. 

"Reliable and verifiable statistics are critical for informed planning and sustainable development,” Dr. Kalgo stated.

He added that the funds will enable the Bureau to commence full operations and deliver accurate, measurable, and purpose-driven data to guide policy formulation and implementation in the state. 

According to him, Prof. Usman  would head the Bereau as its pioneer Chief Executive as approved by the Governor. 

Gov. Idris’ approval of these funds underscores his administration’s twin commitment to both human capital and institutional development, ensuring that Kebbi State continues to advance in education, governance, and socio-economic planning.
