New Sokoto Girls Science Academy To Commence Academic Activities Next Year


The Sokoto State Government has announced that the newly established Sokoto Girls Science Academy will begin full academic activities in January next year.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor A. L. Ala, made this known during the official launch of the distribution of furniture and essential drugs to junior and senior secondary schools across the state. 

The event was held at the Government Central Stores, Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, Sokoto.

Professor Ala stated that all preparations have been completed for the smooth take-off of the academy, which is expected to accommodate 634 students at inception.

He added that the state government has also approved the establishment of an Out-of-School Training College, the creation of ten Computer Libraries across the three senatorial zones, and the provision of additional beddings, textbooks, and exercise books to schools statewide.

On the new supplies, Professor Ala explained that the government spent ₦930 million on the procurement of furniture and ₦48 million on essential drugs for distribution to secondary schools.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Professor Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa, highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming the education sector, noting that significant steps have been taken since the administration’s inception. 

He called on education stakeholders to support the government’s efforts by ensuring effective teaching and learning in schools.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of ANCOPS, Muhammad Ikililu, commended Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu’s administration for its continued investment in education, describing it as a key step towards realizing the nine-point agenda for the sector. 

He assured that the furniture, essential drugs, and other materials provided would be used judiciously to improve learning conditions.

Other speakers included Malam Yusuf Umar Jabo, Chairman of the Ministry’s Implementation Unit, and Malam Murtala Abubakar, State Chairman of the NUT, who both lauded the government’s ongoing support for education.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of furniture and essential drugs to selected schools, including Sultan Bello Secondary School, GDSS Kofar Marke, GDSS Tambuwal, Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, and GGSS Rabah, among others.
