The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Alhaji Sambo Bello Danchadi, has assured the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sokoto Command, of the Ministry’s maximum support and cooperation in promoting public awareness on the activities of the Service.
He stated this when he received the New Controller of Correction, Garba Tsalha who paid him a courtesy visit at his Office.
The Commissioner emphasized the need for members of the public to change their perception about correctional centres, noting that they are institutions established to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate offenders into society as better citizens.
He commended the Nigeria Correctional Service for its continuous efforts towards reformation and skills acquisition programmes for inmates, which he said contribute to reducing crime and promoting social stability.
Alhaji Sambo Danchadi further highlighted some of the achievements of the present administration under Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, particularly in creating employment opportunities for youths and implementing various empowerment initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of social vices.
He expressed readiness to strengthen collaboration with the Service in public enlightenment campaigns that promote peace, discipline, and lawful conduct.
Earlier, the New Controller of Correction Garba Tsalha of Sokoto Command, who led his management team on the courtesy visit, said the visit was to seek partnership with the Ministry of Information and Orientation in sensitizing the public on the reformation and rehabilitation roles of the Service.
He noted that such collaboration would go a long way in correcting public misconceptions and encouraging community support for ex-convicts who have undergone successful rehabilitation.
