Peace Hub Centre Takes Center Stage As NUJ Tours Projects In ILLELA LOCAL GOVERNMENT

As part of its ongoing statewide project assessment, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Sokoto State Council, today visited Illela Local Government Area, where the team inspected key legacy projects executed by the Sokoto State Government in collaboration with development partners and the local government council.
A major highlight of the visit was the newly established Peace Hub Centre, constructed by the Sokoto State Government in partnership with the UNDP.
The centre houses a fully equipped ICT facility, a modern training unit for farmers on improved agricultural methods, and a designated section serving as a grazing reserve for herders initiatives designed to promote peaceful coexistence and reduce communal tensions in the area.
During the visit, the centre was also seen functioning as a skills acquisition hub, with about 300 youths undergoing training on modern charcoal production techniques aimed at reducing tree felling and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The facility is powered by solar energy, providing electricity to several surrounding villages within Illela.
The NUJ team also inspected the upgraded Illela Livestock Market, now fenced to improve security, with a veterinary clinic and other essential facilities provided to enhance commercial activities.
In addition, a fully equipped E-Library constructed at the centre of Illela town is further boosting educational access and digital literacy for residents. Meanwhile, General Hospital Illela is receiving comprehensive renovation to meet the healthcare needs and expectations of the people.
Further developments were noted under the leadership of the Illela Local Government Chairman,
Sirajo Shehu Maibala, who has renovated and equipped the mortuary of the General Hospital to address the long-standing challenge of corpses being transported to Konni in the Niger Republic.
The council has also executed several other projects, including drainage systems and mosques for daily prayers.
