Sokoto Girls Science Academy Set for Take-Off in January.

The newly established Sokoto Girls Science Academy is set to begin academic activities by January next year, the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has announced.
Prof. Ala made this known during the formal launching of the distribution of furniture and essential drugs to junior and senior secondary schools in the state, held at the Government Stores, Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, Sokoto.

He explained that all preparations had been completed for the smooth take-off of the academy, which is expected to accommodate 634 students at commencement.

According to the commissioner, the state government has also approved the establishment of an Out-of-School Training College, ten computer libraries across the three senatorial zones, and the provision of additional beddings, textbooks and exercise books to public schools.

Prof. Ala further disclosed that a total of ₦930 million was spent on the purchase of furniture and ₦48 million on the procurement of essential drugs for distribution to schools.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa, said the ministry has continued to take bold steps toward transforming the education sector. He called on education stakeholders to complement government efforts by ensuring effective teaching and learning in schools.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of ANCOPS, Muhammad Ikililu, described the initiative as part of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s commitment to realizing his nine-point agenda in the education sector. He pledged that the furniture, essential drugs, and other materials would be properly utilized.

Other speakers at the event included the Chairman of the Implementation Unit of the Ministry, Malam Yusuf Umar Jabo, and the State NUT Chairman, Malam Murtala Abubakar.

Highlights of the event included the symbolic presentation of furniture and essential drugs to selected schools such as Sultan Bello Secondary School, GDGSS Kofar Marke, GDGSS Tambuwal, Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary School, and GGC Rabah, among others.
