Sokoto Police Arrest Man For Alleged Murder Of Wife

The Sokoto State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Sufiyanu Aliyu, a 25-year-old 'M' of Gwanyal Village, Tangaza LGA, for the alleged culpable homicide of his wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, aged 15.

The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, at about 1930hrs. The Command received a report at about 2000hrs from A good Smaritan, also of Gwanyal Village, concerning a violent domestic altercation at the suspect's residence.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect, Sufiyanu Aliyu, engaged in a serious misunderstanding with his wife, which escalated tragically. Allegedly, Aliyu used a knife to inflict fatal injuries on the victim, leading to her death.

Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene. The scene was visited, processed, and cordoned off for forensic analysis. The suspect was apprehended at the scene, and a knife, believed to be the weapon used in the commission of the crime, was recovered as an exhibit.

The victim's body was evacuated to a hospital, where a medical doctor officially confirmed her death.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, has commended the swift response of the officers involved. He reassures the public of the Command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served in all cases.

The suspect has confessed to the offence during preliminary interrogation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Sokoto for a detailed and conclusive investigation. The suspect has been charged to court for prosecution.

The Command urges the public to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
