SOSG Sets To Equip State Information Officers, Social Media Influencers, With Modern Communication Skills
The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping state information officers and social media influencers with modern communication skills, digital media literacy, and strong ethical standards.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, made this known while declaring open a three-day training workshop for Government Information Officers, organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with Khadilad Support Services Limited, held at Dankani Guest Palace, Sokoto.
Hon. Danchadi explained that the training is designed to enable participants to use social media constructively and responsibly.
He noted that the programme would help bridge communication gaps among government information officers and other social media users in the state, ensuring effective dissemination of government policies, programmes, and developmental achievements directly to the people.
The Commissioner highlighted several initiatives of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, particularly his efforts in revitalizing the State Media Corporation through the provision of modern broadcasting equipment and solar power installations across all three stations under the corporation.
He described the training as timely and impactful, commending Khadilad Support Services Limited for its collaboration with the Ministry in building the capacity of information officers across the state.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Online Media, Sani Umar, stated that the training aims to enhance the skills of social media users who serve as a vital link between government and citizens. According to him, the initiative is expected to help shape public opinion positively and promote responsible online engagement.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Khadilad Support Services Limited, Muhammad Nasir Ladan, said the training would enable participants to promote positive narratives while avoiding hate speech and fake news.
Participants, including Bashir Garba, an Information Officer, and Abdullahi Hashim, State Chairman of Social Media Influencers, expressed gratitude to the organizers and pledged to apply the knowledge gained for effective information dissemination and responsible social media use.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Bashar Muhammad Maigari, urged participants to pay close attention throughout the three-day workshop to maximize the benefits of the training.
During the technical session, Prof. Okey Ikechukwu mni delivered a PowerPoint presentation on “Engagement, Content, and Sustainability.”
Dignitaries present at the opening ceremony included Director of Information, Bello Dan Fulani; Director of Mobilization, Mujitafa Ibrahim; Director of New Media, Isa Abubakar Shuni; and Director of Finance, Nasiru Abdullahi, among others.
