Gov, Ahmed Aliyu Appeals To Wealthy People To Assist Fallen Heroes

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has appealed to well-to-do individuals, the public and private sectors, as well as corporate bodies, to donate generously in support of the families of fallen heroes.

He made the appeal today while launching the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and the Emblem Appeal Fund at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Lodge, Sokoto.
The Governor said the gesture would go a long way in supporting the families of the fallen heroes.

According to him, the event was organised annually in recognition of the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes in ensuring that Nigeria remains a united and indivisible nation.
Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, the Governor assured of the state government’s commitment to doing everything humanly possible to ensure the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes.

He stressed the need for all those who made pledges to redeem them for the attainment of the set objectives.
In a welcome address, the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Isah Tambagakarka, said the occasion is organised in recognition of the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes.

Alhaji Isah Tambagakarka added that various activities had been lined up for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations.

A total sum of ₦78.7 million was realized as donations during the launch.
The highest donation of ₦10 million came from the state government, while members of the State Executive Council donated ₦6 million while the state chapter of ALGON donated ₦5.7 million.

Other donations included ₦5.2 million from the Forum of Special Advisers, ₦5 million from the Sokoto State House of Assembly, while Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, Permanent Secretaries, and the Chief Launcher—who is also the Managing Director of ZBCC—donated ₦2 million each.
