Senator Wamakko Calls On Public, Private Sectors To Support The Families Of Fallen Heroes
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has commenced a large-scale installation of solar-powered street lights across the Sokoto North Senatorial Zone, beginning with the metropolitan local government areas of Sokoto North and Sokoto South.
The initiative, according to aides of the former governor, is aimed at enhancing security, improving night-time visibility, and stimulating socio-economic activities across Sokoto State.
The intervention is designed to address long-standing challenges associated with poor lighting in residential and commercial areas—often restricting night movement and exposing communities to security risks.
With the provision of reliable and renewable energy lighting, the project is expected to boost residents’ confidence, extend business hours, and promote local economic growth.
Beyond the Sokoto metropolis, the programme is structured to expand to other parts of the senatorial zone.
The solar street-light installation is expected to cover six additional towns each in Binji, Gudu, Kware, Tangaza, Silame, and Wamakko Local Government Areas.
This, observers say, underscores Senator Wamakko’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred, and grassroots-oriented development across all eight local government areas of the zone.
During a visit to the Nufawa area in Sokoto North Local Government Area—one of the benefiting communities—residents expressed appreciation for what they described as a timely intervention.
Many offered prayers for continued strength and wisdom for the Senator, noting that the newly installed street lights have already begun transforming the outlook and safety of the area.
Some residents observed that the improved lighting has significantly enhanced safety, particularly for women, children, and evening traders, while also serving as a deterrent to criminal activities within the neighbourhood.
Community leaders, in their remarks, assured that measures have been put in place to ensure the proper utilisation and protection of the installed solar facilities.
They emphasised a collective resolve to safeguard the infrastructure against vandalism to guarantee sustainability and long-term benefits.
The solar street-light project forms part of Senator Wamakko’s broader interventions aimed at strengthening community security, supporting grassroots development, and complementing government efforts, particularly in remote areas, as the Sokoto State Government has continued similar installations, covering major streets and local government headquarters across the state.
