Sokoto Governor Rolls Out ₦758.7bn Budget for Socio-Economic Expansion

Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, on Wednesday presented a ₦758.7 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, with a strong focus on capital development, security, health, education and economic growth.
The proposal, tagged “Budget of Socio-Economic Expansion,” was drawn from consultations across the state’s three senatorial zones and aligns with the administration’s nine-point smart agenda.
Of the total sum, ₦551.49 billion, representing 72 per cent, is earmarked for capital expenditure, while ₦207.21 billion, or 28 per cent, is allocated to recurrent spending.
Expected revenue sources include ₦389.3 billion from FAAC, ₦74.5 billion from internally generated revenue and ₦233.8 billion from capital receipts.
Security takes a major share with over ₦45.26 billion set aside for equipment, vehicles and logistics for security agencies. The health sector is allocated ₦122.73 billion, exceeding the Abuja Declaration benchmark, with emphasis on completing key hospitals and strengthening medical services.
Education received ₦115.95 billion, agriculture ₦18.74 billion, water resources ₦41.14 billion, while works and transportation will get ₦109.13 billion for road projects. In addition, ₦33.9 billion was earmarked for humanitarian, poverty reduction and youth empowerment programmes.
Governor Aliyu told lawmakers that the state has not borrowed to fund its projects and owes no contractor, urging the Assembly to fast-track passage of the budget to drive socio-economic development.
