Sokoto State Government Distributes ₦150 Million to Flood Victims, NEMA Donates Relief Materials

The Sokoto State Government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has provided relief to victims of the 2025 flood disaster in the state. 

The state government officially flagged off the distribution of ₦150 million to affected individuals in 15 local government areas, with each local government receiving ₦10 million. NEMA also donated food and non-food items to six local government areas.

In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu expressed his administration's commitment to supporting those affected by the natural disaster. "We understand the devastating impact of the flood on our people, and we are committed to providing assistance to those in need. 
The distribution of ₦150 million to affected individuals in 15 local government areas is a demonstration of our commitment to the welfare of our citizens, particularly in times of crisis."

The Governor also commended the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu for the support and assistance provided to the state in responding to the flood disaster. "I wish to commend the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, for the support and assistance provided to our state in responding to this disaster. 
The donation of relief materials by NEMA is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government's commitment to the welfare of our people."

Governor Aliyu further stated that the gesture will undoubtedly bring relief to the affected families and support their recovery efforts.

 "We are proud to be part of a larger community that cares for its citizens, and we pledge to continue working with our partners to rebuild and restore our communities."

The Governor added, "As we move forward, we will continue to prioritize the needs of our people, particularly those affected by the flood. 
We will work tirelessly to ensure that our response efforts are effective and efficient, and that those who need help the most receive it promptly. 

I urge all well-meaning Sokoto citizens to join hands with us to rebuild and restore our communities."

Alhaji Aminu Liman Bodinga, Special Adviser to the Governor on SEMA, expressed gratitude for the support. 

"The donation of relief materials is a testament to the State and Federal Governments' commitment to the welfare of our people. We are grateful for their support and pledge to utilize these resources effectively."

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Muhammad Bello Sifawa, commended the Governor's leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people.

 "I wish to commend His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for his unwavering support to the people affected by the flood. 

His leadership has been exemplary, and we are grateful for his commitment to the welfare of our citizens. 

I urge all beneficiaries to use these resources wisely and pray for the continued peace and prosperity of our state."

The SSG also highlighted the state government's laudable efforts in responding to the disaster. 

"The state government has demonstrated its commitment to the safety and well-being of our citizens through various initiatives, including the procurement of motorized boats and life jackets, as well as the provision of food and material support."

Shehu Kafindangi, NEMA's Head of Operations for Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, said, "We are pleased to be part of this gesture by the Sokoto State Government to support flood  and window victims. 

The donation of food and non-food items by NEMA will undoubtedly bring relief to affected families. NEMA remains committed to collaborating with state governments to provide assistance to those in need."

The District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Chigari, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'adu Abubakar, at the ceremony, expressed appreciation for the government's efforts. "On behalf of the Sultan, I wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Sokoto State Government and NEMA for their timely response to the flood disaster.

 The donation of relief materials is a testament to the government's commitment to the welfare of its citizens. We urge all beneficiaries to utilize these resources wisely and pray for the continued peace and prosperity of our state.
