Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has unveiled fresh initiatives aimed at strengthening the fight against banditry across the state, assuring residents that his administration is determined to end the menace.
The governor disclosed this on Wednesday while declaring open the 17th Regular State Executive Council (SEC) Meeting held in Sokoto.
He said the new initiatives are designed to complement ongoing security operations being carried out in collaboration with security agencies, noting that these efforts have already begun to yield positive results.
According to Governor Aliyu, the new strategy places strong emphasis on enhanced intelligence gathering, which he described as a key weapon in checkmating the activities of bandits operating in the state.
He explained that since assuming office, his administration has consistently supported security agencies with logistics and other critical resources to boost their operational effectiveness, particularly in the 13 local government areas affected by banditry.
The governor called on residents to continue cooperating with the government and security agencies, stressing that community support remains vital to restoring lasting peace.
“As a government, we are committed to doing everything necessary to ensure that banditry becomes history in Sokoto State. But this can only be achieved with the collective support of our people,” he said.
Governor Aliyu commended members of the State Executive Council for their dedication and contributions, which he said have played a major role in the achievements recorded so far by his administration. He urged them to sustain the momentum.
He also appreciated the people of Sokoto State for their prayers and support, assuring them of more dividends of democracy.
The governor further congratulated the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed, and the Senior Special Assistant on Cabinet Matters, Bande Rika, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the realization of his administration’s 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda.
