There Is No Compulsion In Religion, No Conflict Between Islam And Christianity, Says Sultan
Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar says there is no compulsion in religion and no conflict between Islam and Christianity in Nigeria, rather, between people that weaponize religion for personal gain.
He made the disclosure during the Nigeria Interreligious Council (NIREC) biannual meeting 2025 held in Abuja.
The Sultan spoke as chairman of the council.
He emphasized that in putting Nigerians together, God doesn't make mistakes.
The mornach said as he steps into the meeting, he was thrilled as he observed a very friendly and cheerful atmosphere with participants exchanging pleasantries in the spirit of NIREC building peace, friendship and understanding despite diversity in religion and tribe.
He called on the participants to always be truthful in their actions and utterancies, pointing out that NIREC composes of all Islamic and Christian sects and denominations that cover majority of Nigerians that can resolve any problem without recourse to foreign intervention.
He therefore called for rapid appraisal and justification for NIREC to continue or not.
The Sultan reiterated that the noble objectives of the council and it's resolve is to promote peace, Justice and harmony through interfaith, dialogue and collaboration.
He further said NIREC since inception, had been rotating its meeting venues, to reach out to all segments of the society, including religious, opinion and political leaders, governments and the youth capable of cascading ideals to the grassroots.
Sultan Sa'ad therefore called for reinvigoration of the council to promptly respond to all evidence based interfaith challenges with mechanisms to safeguard internal and external sabotage.
He thanked former SGF Boss Mustafa for accepting to be guest speaker at the meeting.
In his speech, Co-chair and CAN President His Eminence Daniel Okafor emphasized that NIREC is needed now than ever before, inview of the prevailing security challenges and pledged full support of CAN.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF George Akume, spoke on the Federal Government's commitment to supporting NIREC to realize its mandates and declared the meeting open.
