The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has appealed to Muslim worshippers across the state to ensure the cleanliness and proper maintenance of newly renovated mosques, stressing that the facilities must be preserved for continuous and effective worship.
Governor Aliyu made the appeal on Friday during the commissioning of the remodelled Izala Jumu’at Mosque in Kebbe town, Kebbe Local Government Area.
The Governor said the decision to embark on the renovation of Jumu’at mosques across the state was informed by the dilapidated condition of many mosques inherited by his administration.
“When we came into office, most of our Jumu’at mosques were in a poor state. This necessitated their renovation to make them more conducive for worshippers,” he said.
He disclosed that the administration has so far completed and commissioned 31 Jumu’at mosques across the state, reaffirming his commitment to the provision of religious and other critical infrastructure to improve the well-being of the people.
The Special Guest of Honour, Alhaji Yusha’u Kebbe, who commissioned the mosque, commended Governor Aliyu for executing people-oriented projects across the state, particularly in the area of religious infrastructure.
Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, represented by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid, urged worshippers to ensure the mosque is used strictly for religious purposes.
He assured the Governor of the Sultanate Council’s continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the people of the state.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Jibir Sani Maihulla, disclosed that several other Jumu’at mosques renovated by the state government are awaiting commissioning.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Musa Garba Kuchi, praised Governor Aliyu for various developmental projects being executed in the area and assured him of the continued support of the people.
The event concluded with a two-rak’ah congregational prayer led by the Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Abubakar Muhammad.
