Aliyu Hails Progress on Gada Central Jumu’at Mosque, Sets March Deadline

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has commended the contractor handling the construction of the Gada Central Jumu’at Mosque for the quality and pace of work, urging timely completion of the long-abandoned project.
The Governor gave the commendation on Tuesday during an inspection visit to the project site in Gada Local Government Area, where he expressed satisfaction with the standard of work being executed.
Governor Aliyu directed the supervising ministry to intensify monitoring of the project, as well as other contracts awarded by his administration, to ensure that quality standards are strictly maintained.
“I am impressed with the quality and speed of this project. I urge the contractor to redouble efforts and ensure delivery within the stipulated time,” the Governor said.

He assured the people of Gada Local Government Area of his administration’s commitment to completing the Jumu’at Mosque, noting that the project reflects the government’s resolve to strengthen religious and social infrastructure across the state.
The Governor further reassured residents that his administration would continue to deliver dividends of democracy to all parts of Sokoto State, irrespective of geographical location, while soliciting continued support and prayers from the people.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Religious Affairs, Dr. Sani Labaran, said the mosque project was initially awarded in November 2012 during the administration of former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
He explained that the contract was later reviewed by the Tambuwal administration without any payment made to the contractor, leading to the abandonment of the project.

According to him, the present administration re-awarded the contract in 2025 at the cost of ₦210 million, with 30 per cent mobilization already paid to the contractor, adding that the project had now reached about 75 per cent completion.
The contractor, Alhaji Aminu Abu Kure, assured the Governor that the mosque would be completed by March 2026, expressing gratitude to the Governor for his decisive intervention that ensured the continuation of the project.
