Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has pledged to improve the welfare and working conditions of staff of state-owned media organisations, as part of efforts to motivate them for enhanced professionalism and efficient service delivery.
The governor made the pledge at the 10th anniversary celebration of Vision FM Sokoto, held at the auditorium of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto.
He said the initiative was aimed at rewarding media practitioners for their commitment to duty and strengthening the state’s information and communication sector.
Governor Aliyu highlighted measures already taken by his administration to reposition the state media industry in line with modern broadcasting standards. These, he said, include the procurement of two transformers for Rima FM, provision of digital broadcasting equipment, and installation of internet services to boost operational efficiency.
He congratulated the management, staff and stakeholders of Vision FM Sokoto on a decade of dedicated service, noting that the station has played a vital role in public enlightenment, promotion of government policies and the strengthening of democratic values in the state.
The governor urged media practitioners to continue to uphold the highest standards of journalism, ethical broadcasting and public service, assuring that his administration would remain media-friendly and continue to patronise private media organisations operating in the state.
In his remarks, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko commended the proprietors of Vision FM for promoting the cultural and religious values of the people of Sokoto State, while expressing gratitude for the award presented to him by the organisation.
Earlier, the Chairman of Vision Media Services, Alhaji Umar Faruk Musa, said the organisation first established Vision FM in Abuja during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He disclosed that
Vision Media Services now operates eight FM stations across the country, including Vision FM Sokoto, which was established in 2015.
He expressed appreciation to Senator Wamakko and Governor Ahmad Aliyu for their continued support towards the growth and development of Vision FM Sokoto.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards, with Governor Ahmad Aliyu honoured as Champion of Peace and Harmony, while Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko received the award of Most Acceptable Politician in Northern Nigeria. Awards were also presented to outstanding staff and partners of Vision FM Sokoto.
