ANCOPS Northwest Zone Honors Sokoto SUBEB Chairman

All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools in the North-West zone of Nigeria has honored the Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, with an award of excellence in recognition of his contributions to the development of Universal Basic Education, as well as his introduction of innovative policies aimed at improving education across Sokoto State.

The ceremony, which brought together representatives from Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, Kaduna and Zamfara States, was held at the main auditorium of Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto.
This event was the first of its kind ever held in Sokoto State, in view of the remarkable efforts of the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, in reviving and improving the education sector, with the aim of keeping pace with modern developments.

Among other distinguished personalities honored with awards for their contributions to the advancement of education in Sokoto State were: the former Governor of the State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko; the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Dr. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar; the Chairman Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Basic and Secondary Education and Member representing Sabon Birni North, Hon. Aminu Almustapha Boza; the Commissioner Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala.

In his address, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, emphasized the importance of collective participation in Universal Basic Education by all stakeholders, in order to contribute meaningfully and support the government’s efforts towards revitalizing the education sector, considering. 

He  stated that in the current year, the Board will focus on providing training and retraining for teachers, headmasters and their deputies, as well as JSS principals and their deputies, in areas such as financial management, personnel management, administrative law, preservation of culture in schools, and the use of computers in line with modern trends.

He called on heads of primary and junior secondary schools to avoid overcrowding classrooms beyond 45 to 50 students per class, in order to support the efforts of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, in providing quality and sound education to the children of the state.

Furthermore, the Executive Chairman disclosed the commitment of the Sokoto State Government to introduce a new system of providing a conducive learning environment through the construction of mega schools, with each block containing 60 classrooms, to meet contemporary educational needs.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were: SUBEB Board Member II, Abdulkadir N. Gada; Board Member III, Alhaji Muhammad Garba Sarki;  Director  Administration, Tukur Abdullahi; Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Ahmad Alhaji Umar Gidadawa; Director of Planning, Engr. Tukur Yabo; as well as other Board officials and school principals.

At the event, a financial donation of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) from Hon. Aminu Almustapha Boza was announced, aimed at encouraging the organizers of the programme to continue their efforts in promoting education across Sokoto State, in order to achieve the educational reform agenda set by Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.
