More Areas Light Up with Solar Street Lights by Senator Wamakko
More communities in Sokoto North Local Government Area are now enjoying improved nighttime visibility and enhanced security following the installation of solar-powered streetlights by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The intervention, which forms part of the Senator’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and promote safety across his constituency, recently covered areas including Yar Sakke, Marmaron Garo, and Mainiyyo.
The newly installed solar street lights have transformed the outlook of these neighbourhoods, bringing relief and renewed hope to residents.
Speaking with journalists during visits to the communities, many residents expressed appreciation to Senator Wamakko for the initiative, describing the project as timely and impactful.
According to them, the presence of solar street lights has significantly reduced nighttime criminal activities, while also boosting commercial and social activities, as traders and residents can now operate safely after dusk.
Some residents noted that the improved lighting has made movement easier for pedestrians and motorists, particularly women and children, who previously felt unsafe moving around at night. Others added that the initiative has helped curb youth restiveness and improved community vigilance.
The communities, however, also commended the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, for what they described as his transformative leadership and ongoing infrastructural development across the state, noting that Sokoto has been given a new look under his administration.
They further commended Senator Wamakko for choosing solar-powered solutions, describing them as cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and reliable in view of frequent power supply challenges.
In their remarks, community leaders and residents offered prayers to Almighty Allah to reward Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for the gesture and grant him continued good health and strength to initiate and execute more people-oriented projects.
They also called on other political office holders to emulate the Senator’s commitment to grassroots development.
The solar street light project is one of several constituency interventions by Senator Wamakko aimed at improving living standards, strengthening security, and fostering sustainable development across communities in Sokoto State.
