Sokoto Approves Forward Operations Base in Isa LGA, Debunks Tidibale Displacement Claim

The Sokoto State Government has approved the establishment of a Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Isa Local Government Area to further strengthen security and complement existing security formations in the zone.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu announced this on Thursday shortly after the closing ceremony of the 2026 Nigerian Army Force Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at the Megero Open Theatre, Sokoto.
The governor explained that the new Forward Operations Base would enhance surveillance, improve response time, and reinforce ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
Addressing security concerns, Governor Aliyu dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media which alleged that bandits had chased residents out of Tidibale village in Isa Local Government Area.
He clarified that while the individuals seen in the footage were indeed residents of Tidibale village, they were not displaced by bandits. According to him, the Isa Local Government Council authorities had temporarily conveyed the residents following rumours of a planned bandit attack on the community, as a preventive measure.
The governor therefore called on the public to disregard the rumour and warned against the spread of unverified information, especially on security-related matters, stressing that such reports often create panic and undermine security efforts.
Governor Aliyu reassured the people of the state of his administration’s sustained commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that security remains a top priority of his government.
He also pledged continued support for the welfare of officers and men of the Nigerian Army, as well as the families of fallen heroes, in recognition of their sacrifices to the state and the nation.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, said the annual Army Force Celebration and Remembrance Day was observed to honour the contributions of fallen heroes, appreciate serving personnel, and provide an opportunity to listen to challenges faced by the families, particularly widows of deceased soldiers.
The army commander assured of renewed commitment by troops to securing Sokoto State and the country at large, while urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance the fight against banditry.
Highlights of the ceremony included the laying of wreaths, military parade, special prayers, gun salutes, release of pigeons, medical outreach, and the distribution of relief materials to widows of fallen heroes.
