SUBEB Chairman Warns Local Government Education Secretaries To Intensity Schools Visit

The Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, has issued a strong warning to Education Secretaries of the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) to rise up to their responsibilities by intensifying school visits in order to ensure the effective implementation of policies aimed at improving Basic Education across the state.
He made this statement during a meeting with the 23 Education Secretaries of the LGEAs in the state, alongside heads of various departments of the Board, to review activities for the Second Term Academic Session.
The Executive Chairman added that the Board would no longer remain silent over the negligence displayed by some education secretaries, considering the enormous efforts of the Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, in allocating substantial funds to provide quality education for all categories of students in the state.
He emphasized that the Board is always ready to provide everything required by the education secretaries in terms of working tools, while also ensured continuous improvement in teachers’ welfare and the provision of conducive learning environment through the construction of new schools, renovation of dilapidated ones, supply of furniture, potable water, and teaching and learning materials.
Furthermore, the Executive Chairman called on the education secretaries to intensify monitoring of teachers to ensure proper teaching, regular attendance, punctuality, and commitment to duty, in order to support Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s efforts in improving teachers’ salaries from ₦18,000 to ₦70,000 as the minimum wage, in line with what is paid to other workers nationwide.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Sokoto State LGEAs Education Secretaries’ Forum, Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu Minannata, presented their complaints, which included inadequate vehicles and the need for the renovation of their offices.
He expressed hope that there would be positive changes this time, considering the manner in which the Executive Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, is managing the affairs of the Board.
Responding to the issues of office renovation and the provision of vehicles for monitoring and supervision of schools, the Executive Chairman assured them that the necessary support would be provided, including the renovation of their offices.
The meeting was attended by the Board Secretary, Alhaji Mamuda Ahmad Wamakko; Board Members; the Director of Planning, Tukur Yabo; the Director of Quality Assurance, Umar Muhammad Sanyinna, the Director of Special Programmes, Alhaji Mahmud Galadima; and other senior officials of the Board.
