Ramadan: Aliyu Charges APC on Unity, Insists on Due Process for Defectors
From Shehu M Wamakko
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sustain unity and strengthen internal cohesion to advance the party’s fortunes and the development of the state.
The governor made the call on Friday after hosting state and local government party executives, elected local government chairmen and other stakeholders to an Iftar at the Government House, Sokoto.
He said the Ramadan gathering provided a platform for reflection, renewed commitment and stronger collaboration among party leaders, stressing that unity of purpose remained the backbone of the APC’s successes in the state.
Aliyu paid glowing tribute to the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, describing him as a seasoned politician and mentor whose grassroots influence has continued to consolidate the party’s structure.
He urged members to remain loyal and respectful to the party leadership, noting that discipline and unity were essential to sustaining political stability and progress.
On the reported influx of politicians seeking to defect to the APC, the governor said the party remained open to new entrants but warned that proper procedures must be followed.
According to him, prospective members must begin their registration at the polling ward level and align with the party at the grassroots before being fully integrated.
“This is necessary to strengthen our structures, promote discipline and ensure seamless integration of new members,” he said.
Aliyu also unveiled plans to activate youth offices in all the 23 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to deepen youth engagement in governance and policy formulation.
He directed the Special Adviser on Youth Matters, Alhaji Kamaluden Lemi, and the party Youth Leader, Alhaji Nasiru Italy, to embark on a tour of the local governments to ensure the offices become fully operational.
The governor added that Ramadan relief items would be distributed to youths during the tour to cushion the impact of the fasting period.
He further called on party faithful to use the holy month for prayers, tolerance and selfless service, while seeking divine guidance and peace for Sokoto State and the nation.
In his remarks, the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Isah Sadiq Achida, commended the governor’s leadership style and developmental strides, pledging the unwavering support of party members.
Achida expressed optimism that the APC would emerge stronger in future elections, urging members to remain united and focused.
Other party leaders, including the outgoing APC Chairman of Illela Local Government, Alhaji Musa Sarkin Alaru; the incoming APC Chairman of Sokoto North, Hon. Murtala Hassan; and the state ALGON Chairman, Abba Shehu Tambuwal, also lauded the governor and reaffirmed their loyalty to the party leadership.
