Sokoto First Lady Distributes 5,000 Food Items to Women

From Shehu M Wamakko,

The Wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Ahmad Aliyu, has distributed 5,000 food items to women across the 23 local government areas of the state as part of activities marking the Ramadan season.
Speaking at the flag-off of the distribution, Hajiya Fatima said the annual initiative was designed to ease the burden on women and their families during the holy month of fasting.

She stated that the items comprising rice, spaghetti and cooking oil, would be shared among individual beneficiaries and women’s groups in all the local government areas.
According to her, each of the 23 councils will receive 100 bags each of rice, spaghetti and cooking oil to ensure fair and wide distribution.

The First Lady explained that the gesture complements earlier interventions by the state and federal governments, which provided support to Islamic scholars, imams, orphans, the needy and other vulnerable groups during Ramadan.
In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmad Shagari, and the Special Adviser on Women Engagement, Hajiya Zainab Umar Dasuki, described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it would improve the welfare of women across the state.
Also speaking, the Wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hajiya Farida Tukur Bala Bodinga, and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and offered prayers for the First Lady and Governor Ahmad Aliyu.
