Sokoto Gov Disburses   Ramadan Package to 2,794 Imams,Scholars.

The Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, has flagged off the distribution of financial and food assistance to 2,794 imams, muazzins and Islamic scholars as part of this year’s Ramadan support programme.

The ceremony, held at the Government House, Sokoto, is aimed at ensuring the comfort of clerics as they discharge their religious responsibilities of teaching, preaching and leading congregational prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.
Governor Aliyu said the intervention was designed to support religious leaders and enable them to focus on their spiritual duties throughout the fasting period.

He disclosed that 200 senior Islamic scholars would receive N200,000 each, while another category of scholars would benefit from N100,000 each.
According to him, Chief Imams of the 98 Jumu’at mosques in the state will receive N100,000 and five bags of rice each. Their deputies are to get N50,000 and three bags of rice each, while muazzins will receive N50,000 and two bags of rice each.
The Governor further stated that 2,100 imams would receive N100,000 each as part of the Ramadan package.
He assured that the gesture would be sustained annually to cushion economic hardship and strengthen religious activities across the state.
In his remarks, the representative of the Sultan of Sokoto and Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, commended the Governor for his commitment to easing the difficulties faced by the poor and vulnerable in society.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Sani Maihulla, described the initiative as commendable and urged beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by praying for the success of the Governor and the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
