The Sokoto State Government has flagged off the distribution of Ramadan relief packages to more than 43,000 vulnerable residents, including 35,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and 8,000 persons with disabilities across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu, while inaugurating the distribution exercise, said the intervention forms part of his administration’s continued welfare support to vulnerable groups during the holy month of Ramadan.
Represented by his deputy, Idris Muhammad Gobir, the governor explained that each beneficiary would receive bags of rice, clothing materials and a cash donation of ₦5,000 to ease the burden of fasting and prepare for the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Aliyu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the safety and dignity of IDPs, noting that efforts were ongoing in collaboration with security agencies to ensure their protection and facilitate their eventual return to their ancestral communities.
In his remarks, the Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, commended the governor for what he described as a responsive and people-oriented administration.
He said the various programmes and humanitarian gestures rolled out by the government reflect its determination to address the needs and aspirations of citizens across the state.
