Sokoto Govt to Roll Out New Women Empowerment Programmes

From Shehu M Wamakko

The Sokoto State Government has concluded plans to introduce additional empowerment programmes for women across the state in a renewed effort to boost their economic independence and social development.
Wife of the Governor,
Hajiya Fatima Ahmad Aliyu, made this known during a Special Iftar Session with women commissioners, special advisers, senior government officials and women leaders from the 23 local government areas of the state.
The event was held at the Presidential Lodge, Sokoto.
She explained that the forthcoming initiatives are aimed at enhancing women’s productivity and strengthening their capacity to support their families and contribute meaningfully to societal growth.
Hajiya Fatima conveyed Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s appreciation to women in the state for their steadfast support of the administration, assuring them of continued government commitment to programmes that uplift their living standards.
The Governor’s wife highlighted several ongoing skills acquisition and empowerment schemes being implemented through the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Poverty Reduction Agency, the Sokoto State Microfinance Development Agency (SOSMEDA) and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

According to her, the programmes are equipping women with vocational skills to promote self-reliance and reduce poverty.

She noted that the Iftar gathering was organised not only to mark the holy month of Ramadan but also to foster unity among women leaders and offer prayers for the success of the present administration, as well as for peace and stability in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.

In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmad Shagari, commended the Governor’s wife for hosting the Iftar and applauded the state government’s sustained commitment to women’s welfare and empowerment.

The event featured the breaking of fast and a dinner.
