SUBEB Chairman Presents Letter Of Appreciation To Major General Aliyu Abbas Idris

The Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, has presented a Letter of Appreciation to an old student of Magajin Rafi Model Primary School, Sokoto (Class of 1981), Major General Aliyu Abbas Idris, in recognition of his efforts in constructing classroom blocks at the school under the Nigerian Army Special Intervention Projects.
The letter was presented after the commissioning and official handover of the project to the Sokoto State Government, on behalf of the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, by the Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Mamuda Ahmad Wamakko, during a ceremony held at the school premises.
In his remarks, the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, represented by his Deputy, Engineer Idris Muhammad Gobir, commended Major General Aliyu Abbas Idris for his patriotism and commitment to the development of the state, particularly in the education sector.
He described the gesture as a demonstration of selflessness and urged other well-meaning citizens of the state to emulate the example by supporting government efforts to improve education.
The Governor further stated that his administration has continued to implement strategic interventions aimed at revitalizing basic education in the state, included the improvement of teachers’ salaries,construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, provision of potable water, toilets, furniture, teaching and learning materials, training and retraining of teachers, and the recruitment of qualified teachers across all levels of schools in the state.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Wahid Shaibu, the General Officer Commanding, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Bemgba Koughna, stated that the initiative reflects the Nigerian Army’s evolving doctrine of people-centred security, which emphasizes humanitarian and developmental interventions alongside conventional security operations.
Speaking earlier, Major General Aliyu Abbas Idris, the project executor, explained that the intervention was undertaken as a personal contribution to his alma mater, with the aim of supporting students’ learning and improving educational standards at the school.
He added that the project was executed in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, which encourages commanders to leave lasting legacies in their areas of responsibility.
The commissioning ceremony, which took place at Magajin Rafi Model Primary School, was attended by senior officials of the Board, include Permanent Member III, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Sarki; Director Administration, Tukur Abdullahi; Director of Special Units, Alhaji Mahamuda Galadima; Director of Social Mobilization, Hajiya Rabi Muhammad Gwadabawa; other principal officers of the Board, as well as the Education Secretary of Sokoto South LGEA.
