The Sokoto State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied claims that former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has joined the party.
In a statement issued in Sokoto, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Murtala Aliyu, said the ADC leadership in the state, under the chairmanship of Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk, maintained that Senator Tambuwal did not follow the laid-down procedures required for membership of the party.
The statement explained that according to the party’s constitution, anyone wishing to join the ADC must do so through the appropriate channels at the ward level before obtaining a membership card.
The party leadership further revealed that it contacted the Chairman of Tambuwal Ward as well as the ADC Chairman in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu Tambari, who confirmed that neither he nor other party leaders in the area were aware of, or consulted about, the alleged development.
ADC also cautioned the party’s 2023 governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Bello Isiyaku (Keegan), to desist from claiming or assuming authority to facilitate the entry of individuals into the party in the state.
According to the statement, party membership cannot be conducted privately, stressing that it must be done at the ward level where the Ward Chairman supervises the process in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
The party leadership further warned Senator Tambuwal against interfering in the affairs of the ADC in Sokoto State, stating that such actions could compel the party to take legal action.
While reiterating that the ADC remains open to new members, the party emphasized that all prospective members must follow the official and recognized procedures.
The statement added that the party welcomes individuals willing to contribute to its growth and development, but will not tolerate any form of backdoor entry into its ranks.
