ADC Threatens Legal Action Against ‘Interim Financial Secretary’ Over Misconduct

By Aminu Suleiman

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sokoto State Chapter, has threatened legal action against Akibu Dalhatu, described as the party’s “so-called Interim National Financial Secretary” and a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Sokoto State under the immediate past administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, over alleged misconduct at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on March 25, 2026, in Abuja.

In a statement issued on March 29 and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Murtala Aliyu, the party condemned what it termed the insult and public humiliation of its State Chairman, Hon. Umar Faruk Muhammad, during the meeting.

According to the statement, the incident occurred during deliberations on how to address internal challenges within the ADC in Sokoto State. While Dalhatu reportedly proposed that reconciliation efforts be conducted in Abuja, the State Chairman insisted that the national leadership should instead send representatives to Sokoto State to engage stakeholders across the state and local government levels.

The disagreement, the party said, escalated when Dalhatu verbally attacked and insulted the chairman, and further aggravated the situation by recording and circulating the encounter on social media.

The ADC described the action as unacceptable and a threat to party discipline, unity, and stability in Sokoto State, noting that such conduct undermines the values of a state widely known for peace, dignity, and respect for constituted authority.

The chapter also questioned Dalhatu’s standing within the party, stating that he is not a fully recognized member but is affiliated with a faction, despite laying claim to a national position.

While noting that the incident occurred in Abuja, the party said it is awaiting Dalhatu’s return to Sokoto State, where appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken.

It further challenged him to provide credible evidence to support his claim that the State Chairman serves as a Special Adviser to the current APC-led government in Sokoto State.

The ADC called on Dalhatu to immediately withdraw his statements and tender a public apology to Hon. Umar Faruk Muhammad through the media, warning that failure to do so would result in legal action.

Reaffirming its commitment to discipline, unity, and democratic values, the Sokoto State chapter assured members and supporters of its resolve to uphold the integrity of the party while addressing internal disputes through lawful and established channels.
