Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Tuesday appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna over allegations of corruption and misappropriation of state funds to the tune of N432 billion
The arraignment followed earlier confirmation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that El-Rufai and one Joel Adoga would be brought before the Federal High Court, Kaduna Judicial Division, on March 24, 2026
According to the Commission, the case, marked FHC/KD/73/2026, includes charges bordering on conversion and possession of public property as well as alleged money laundering
The ICPC further disclosed that a separate charge had been filed before a Kaduna State High Court against El-Rufai and another defendant, Amadu Sule (LEDA)
The case, with charge number KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, involves allegations of abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage
The agency stated that both charges were filed on March 18, 2026, adding that a date for arraignment at the State High Court would be communicated in due course
It also confirmed that the former governor had been duly served, stressing its commitment to due process and adherence to the rule of law
During proceedings at the Federal High Court, counsel to El-Rufai urged the court to grant his client bail, citing his constitutional rights and the need to prepare his defence adequately
The court subsequently adjourned hearing on the bail application to March 31, 2026.
