Gov. Aliyu Hails Media as Partners in Governance, Gifts NUJ Vehicles.

The Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has described journalists as indispensable partners in promoting good governance, emphasizing their role in holding leaders accountable and shaping public discourse.
Aliyu made the remark on Thursday night during a special Ramadan Iftar with executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, as well as chairmen, secretaries, and treasurers of the seven NUJ chapels in the state.
The governor noted that both conventional and social media platforms have continued to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance, but stressed the need for adherence to professional ethics.

He stated that his administration welcomes constructive criticism and remains committed to delivering on its promise of building a “new Sokoto State.
”
Aliyu also urged Nigerians to continue to live in peace, pointing out that this year’s Ramadan was unique as it coincided with the Christian Lenten season.

Reaffirming his administration’s open-door policy, the governor encouraged journalists to always seek clarification through the office of the Director-General, Media and Publicity, to ensure balanced reportage.

On security, he disclosed that the state government has provided more than 200 vehicles, hundreds of motorcycles, and other logistics to security agencies to enhance efforts at tackling insecurity.
In appreciation of the cooperation received from journalists, Governor Aliyu donated an official vehicle to the NUJ and assured that other requests by the union, including the rehabilitation of the Press Centre and inclusion of its members in state committees, would be addressed.

Earlier, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji, commended the governor for the initiative, noting that such engagement fosters collaboration between government and media stakeholders.

He also acknowledged the administration’s achievements in key sectors such as education, healthcare, security, youth and women empowerment, and rural development.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Appreciation to Governor Aliyu by the NUJ in recognition of his support for the media in Sokoto State.
