Resign If You Want To Contest, Gov, Dauda Tells Political Office Holders

The Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has directed all members of the state executive council who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign.
The governor gave the order on Monday during a meeting of the state executive council held at the Government House, Gusau.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the order was in line with the Electoral Act signed by the President and the schedule for the 2027 general elections released by INEC.
The statement said in part, “Today, Governor Dauda Lawal presided over the 64th Executive Council meeting, where key issues for the development of Zamfara State were discussed.
“In his opening remarks, the governor directed all members of the executive council who are interested in contesting to resign on or before March 31, 2026.
“The governor directed the Secretary to the State Government to issue a notice to all political office holders who are interested in contesting to resign from their posts before the stipulated deadline.
“The Head of Service was also directed to issue a similar notice to all civil servants who are interested in contesting in the elections.”
Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to serving the people of Zamfara State.
