Gov Aliyu Reaffirms Commitment to Security, Development as Air War College Delegation Visits State

From Shehu Muhammad Wamakko

Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has reiterated his administration’s resolve to strengthen security and promote sustainable development as he received participants of Air War College Course 12 on a courtesy visit to the state.

Describing the visit as a significant engagement, Governor Aliyu noted that the delegation comprises strategic thinkers and future military leaders whose roles are crucial to Nigeria’s security architecture and national development.

He commended the Air Force War College for its consistent effort in training senior military officers capable of addressing security threats, stressing that such institutions remain vital to maintaining national stability.

Highlighting Sokoto State’s strategic position, the Governor said its status as a border state and the historic seat of the Caliphate places a special responsibility on his administration to ensure peace, stability, and effective governance.

He explained that his government has strengthened collaboration with security agencies through improved intelligence sharing, logistical support, and enhanced operational capacity to combat cross-border crimes and other security challenges.

According to him, over 200 patrol vehicles and more than 250 motorcycles have been provided to security agencies, alongside improved allowances for personnel deployed to high-risk areas.

Governor Aliyu also disclosed that thousands of local security personnel have been recruited and equipped to complement conventional security forces in maintaining peace across the state.

He, however, emphasized that sustainable security goes beyond military intervention, noting that poverty alleviation and job creation remain central to his administration’s strategy.

The Governor said youth empowerment and agricultural development are key pillars of his nine-point agenda, adding that thousands of youths and women have been trained in various skills and supported with start-up capital and working tools.

In the agricultural sector, he stated that government interventions include the distribution of improved seedlings, fertilizers, irrigation support, and modern farming techniques aimed at boosting productivity and encouraging youth participation in agriculture.

Governor Aliyu urged members of the visiting delegation to maximize the study tour by gaining practical governance insights that would contribute to national policy formulation and development.

Earlier, the leader of the Air War College delegation, Air Vice Mashal Gambo Adamu Nbaka, commended the Sokoto State Government for what he described as visible infrastructural transformation and commitment to good governance.

He expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded the team, describing the visit as part of the College’s annual national study tour designed to expose senior military officers to governance and leadership dynamics.

The delegation leader cited ongoing projects across the state, including road construction and urban renewal initiatives, as evidence of purposeful leadership.

He also praised the administration’s support to security agencies, noting that the provision of operational equipment would enhance efficiency and strengthen security operations.

According to him, the synergy between the Sokoto State Government and relevant federal security institutions remains critical to addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

He explained that the Air Force War College runs a nine-month operational-level programme for senior officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces and allied countries, designed to prepare them for higher strategic responsibilities.

The study tour, scheduled from April 26 to May 10, is expected to expose participants to governance structures, leadership practices, and the role of military operations in national development.
