Sokoto Gov Sets Up Panel to Probe Market, Motor Park Fire

 Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has constituted a committee to assess the damage caused by a recent fire outbreak at the Old Market and the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

According to an official statement, the committee is chaired by Barrister Gandi Umar Mohammed, MNI, as Acting Chairman.

 Other members include the Commissioner for Land and Housing, Professor Aminu Salihu Mika’ilu, Mallam Bello Kofa, Mallam Nafi’u Danhaja, Alhaji Isa Maishinkafa, Alhaji Ladan Almustafa, and Alhaji Mustafa Abdullahi Maidala, while Alhaji Lawal Sada will serve as Secretary.

The panel is mandated to evaluate the extent of damage at the affected sites, identify victims of the inferno, and determine the cause of the fire incident.

It is also expected to recommend measures to prevent future occurrences and advise the government on the type and nature of assistance to be provided to those affected.

The committee has been given six weeks to submit its report to the state government.
