UNICEF, WHO, Commended For Investing a lot Of Resources Toward Improvement Of Health Care In Sokoto
This assertion was made by the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, while receiving country representatives of both WHO and UNICEF, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Government House, Sokoto.
Alhaji Idris Gobir said it was in recognition of this that the state government is giving adequate attention to improving the healthcare system in the state.
He expressed appreciation for the efforts of both agencies in investing a lot of resources toward the improvement of healthcare in the state.
According to him, it is based on this that the state government is responding to all the requests presented by the two organizations.
The Deputy Governor used the occasion to thank UNICEF for renovating the maternity complex of the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto.
Alhaji Idris Gobir appealed to the organization to extend a similar gesture to all maternity wards in the 23 local government areas of the state.
The Deputy Governor assured staff of the two agencies of adequate security in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Earlier, in their separate remarks, the WHO Country Representative, Dr. Paval Ursu, and his UNICEF counterpart, Mrs. Wafaa Sa’ed, said their visit was aimed at exploring opportunities to strengthen strategic partnerships.
They acknowledged the significant improvement in the conduct of the recent immunization exercises in the state.
This, they attributed to the commitment of the state government in that regard.
They particularly appreciated the successes recorded by Sokoto South, Sokoto North, and Wamakko local government areas in the exercise.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, said the state government has ensured the constant release of counterpart funding for the exercise.
Dr. Faruk Umar Wurno added that, in order to ensure maximum success, the state government has assigned commissioners and special advisers to monitor the exercise in all 23 local government areas.
The commissioner, however, said the challenges encountered during the last exercise were due to delays in the release of some logistics at the national level.
He expressed the government’s commitment to eradicating polio within the year.
