The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday conducted successful affirmation exercises for its three senatorial candidates in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Those affirmed were Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa for Sokoto South Senatorial District and Alhaji Umar Ajiya for Sokoto East Senatorial District.
The exercise was supervised by a 16-member Election Committee deployed by the APC National Headquarters, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other relevant bodies monitored the process across the state.
The event attracted several top government officials and party stakeholders, including Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, Deputy Governor Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, members of the National and State Assemblies, former Deputy Governor Alhaji Chiso Dattijo Abdullahi and former Zamfara State Deputy Governor Alhaji Hassan Masha.
Observers described the exercises as peaceful and orderly in all the senatorial districts.
Speaking during the exercise in Sokoto North, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Sokoto State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, said the affirmation process complied fully with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and APC guidelines.
According to him, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko emerged as the sole aspirant for the Sokoto North Senatorial seat after purchasing and submitting the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
“He was duly screened and cleared by the APC and is hereby affirmed as the party’s sole candidate for the position,” Binji stated.
Leader of the APC National Headquarters delegation, Hon. Hodi Ukashatu, commended party members in the state for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Wamakko thanked Almighty Allah and expressed appreciation to the people of Sokoto State for their continued support, prayers and loyalty to him and the APC.
He described Sokoto as a stronghold of the APC, saying the state occupies a significant place in the history and growth of the ruling party.
Addressing journalists shortly after the exercise, the former governor said he was encouraged by the confidence reposed in him and the party by the people of the state.
Wamakko pledged continued service to humanity, his constituents and the nation at large, while urging leaders across the country to embrace inclusive governance and prioritise public service over personal gain.
“The entire nation must borrow a leaf from Sokoto State,” he said.
He further advised APC candidates nationwide to remain committed to serving the people diligently and delivering meaningful development to their constituents.
