By Aminu Suleman
The Sokoto State Police Command has stepped up security ahead of Eid-el-Kabir, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, assuring residents of a peaceful celebration across the Caliphate.
Following a tactical meeting with Area Commanders, DPOs, and tactical teams, CP Shaffa said patrols and intelligence-led surveillance have been intensified around prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and critical infrastructure.
Residents have been asked to report suspicious objects or unfamiliar persons near crowded areas, avoid unapproved processions, and secure homes and businesses. Parents were also urged to educate children on basic safety protocols.
On Eid morning, worshippers will be required to cooperate with security personnel at entry points.
Unauthorized vehicles, firearms, sharp objects, and intoxicants are banned from prayer ground perimeters.
The Command warned that hooliganism, pushing, or running during and after prayers will not be tolerated.
Traditional rulers and imams have been called on to remind congregants that Eid is a time for compassion, restraint, and respect for the law.
Security monitoring will run through the three-day celebration and beyond.
The Command
specifically cautioned against reckless driving, illegal fireworks, and celebratory gunfire, especially on roads linking Arkilla behind the Polytechnic and Bafarawa Estates. Residents were also told to dispose of animal hides only at designated abattoirs and to report any post-celebration disturbances.
“Safety is a collective responsibility. Adhering strictly to these rules is not an infringement on your joy but a safeguard for our shared peace,” CP Shaffa said.
