Meat Distribution Saga:- Sokoto Disability Group Tenders Apology To SOZEA, Qatar Foundation
From Aminu Suleiman
The Joint National Association of People Living with Disabilities, Sokoto State Chapter, has apologized to the Sokoto State Zakkat and Waqf Agency and Qatar Charity over allegations that members were denied Eid-ul-Adha sacrificial meat.
Addressing journalists at the Qatar Charity office on Birnin Kebbi Road, the group’s Chairman Comrade Abubakar Mu’azu and Galadiman Sarkin Makafin Sakkwato, Alhaji Sani Muhammad said their earlier complaint was meant to draw attention to challenges facing members, not to insult the organizations.
The association confirmed it received its share of meat from the Zakkat and Waqf Agency on Friday and another allocation from Qatar Charity on Saturday. Leaders praised both bodies for their consistent support, noting the commission has provided various forms of assistance to persons with disabilities over the years.
They also apologized directly to the Executive Chairman of Sokoto State Zakkat and Waqf Agency, Malam Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, and Qatar Charity official Muhammad Mujahid Abubakar. The group pledged to continue supporting the humanitarian work of both organizations.
The apology came two days after a video circulated on social media where some persons with disabilities alleged the Zakkat and Waqf Agency and Qatar Charity had denied them sacrificial meat in past years and delayed distribution this year. The claims prompted concern from officials of both bodies.
Officials say distribution of Qurbani meat to vulnerable households, including PWDs, continues across Sokoto as part of the Eid al-Adha rites.
