Sokoto Govt Begins Assessment of Old Market, Motor Park Fire Losses

The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair asse exssment of losses suffered by victims of the recent fire outbreaks at the Old Market and Sokoto Central Motor Park.
The assurance followed the constitution of a government committee by Governor Ahmad Aliyu to evaluate the extent of damage caused by the infernos and identify genuine victims for possible support and intervention.
Chairman of the committee, Barrister Umar Gandi, commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu for his swift response to the incidents, noting that the Governor personally visited the affected market and motor park to assess the situation and sympathize with traders and residents who lost their properties.
He described the Governor’s action as a demonstration of compassion and responsible leadership aimed at easing the hardship faced by victims of the disasters.
Barrister Umar Gandi appealed to affected traders and residents to cooperate fully with officials conducting the assessment exercise by providing accurate and truthful information regarding their losses.
He stated that only genuine victims would benefit from any form of assistance, stressing that nobody should make false claims or include shops, houses, or properties that were not affected by the fire incident.
The committee further explained that the verification process would ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in the distribution of any support package approved for victims.
It also urged individuals whose names were omitted from the initial list of affected persons to come forward for proper clarification and documentation.
Other members of the committee include Alh Mustapha Abdullahi Maidala,Alh Isah Maishinkafa, Malam Nafi'u Dan Haja, Malam Bello Kofa, Ladan Almustapha, Mustapha and secretary Alh Lawal Sada.
