The Sokoto State Police Command has recorded a string of successes in its ongoing counter-banditry operations across Rabah, Kware, Wurno, Binji, and other local government areas, arresting suspected informants and financiers and foiling attacks on rural communities.
Announcing the breakthroughs on behalf of the Command, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ahmad Rufa’i said the operations marked a critical step in dismantling criminal networks terrorizing parts of the state.
Two Long-Sought Suspects Arrested in Rabah
On 15 May 2026 at about 0700hrs, operatives from the Unguwar Rogo Division and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested two men who had been on the police watchlist for months.
The suspects, Yahaya Kurma and Musa Lawali, both residents of Kurya Village in Rabah LGA, were intercepted riding an unregistered Honda motorcycle with two bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police said intelligence links the pair to bandit gangs operating in Rabah, Kware, and Wurno LGAs, where they allegedly supplied narcotics as part of a logistics and financing arrangement. Investigation is ongoing.
Attack Foiled in Binji, 78 Cows Recovered
Hours earlier, on 14 May at about 2330hrs, armed bandits invaded Gimba Village under Gawazzau District in Binji LGA, shooting sporadically and rustling an unspecified number of cattle.
Responding to a distress call, the Binji DPO mobilized tactical teams and personnel from a nearby Army Forward Operating Base. After a fierce gun duel, the bandits fled into the forest, abandoning the stolen livestock.
Seventy-eight cows were recovered and will be returned to their owners. Security forces remain on alert in the area.
Sheep Rustlers Nabbed in Kware
On 16 May at about 0300hrs, a police patrol team in the More area acted on a complaint from Aliyu Bello and two others that 19 sheep had been stolen from their home at about 0230hrs.
Tracking footprints led officers to Badageni Village in Kware LGA, where three suspects were found: Ibrahim Aliyu 40 years; Rabiatu Ibrahim 20 years; and Aisha Ibrahim 15 years.
Rabiatu Ibrahim confessed that two men, identified only as Auwalu and Juli, brought the sheep to their house. The two remain at large as efforts to arrest them continue.
