The Wazirin Sokoto, Professor,Sambo Wali Junaidu, on behalf of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has commissioned the newly reconstructed and remodelled Gwadabawa Central Jumu’at Mosque in Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The mosque project was executed by the Sokoto State Government as part of efforts to improve religious infrastructure and provide a more conducive atmosphere for worshippers.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Professor, Junaidu conveyed the Sultan’s goodwill and appreciation to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritising the renovation and reconstruction of mosques across the state. He described the initiative as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to Islamic values and the spiritual wellbeing of the people.
“The Sultan is pleased with this gesture and prays that Allah rewards the governor and his team abundantly. We urge the community to safeguard and make good use of this facility,” he said.

Governor Aliyu said the reconstruction of the mosque aligned with his administration’s policy of supporting religious institutions while promoting peace, unity and moral development in society.

He explained that the mosque was originally built as a mud structure by Sarkin Gobir Muhammad Maiturare during his time as Marafa.
According to the governor, the structure remained in that condition for many years until Sarkin Gobir Abdulrahman later reconstructed it with cement. He added that the present administration was privileged to undertake its full renovation and remodelling.

The governor noted that similar projects had been carried out in several local government areas to ensure Muslims worshipped in conducive environments. He said the government had adopted a deliberate policy of rehabilitating mosques and Islamiyya schools that had fallen into disrepair.
Governor Aliyu stressed that religious institutions remained vital to moral upbringing, community cohesion and the propagation of Islamic knowledge, assuring that his administration would continue to support initiatives that positively impacted the lives of citizens.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects across urban and rural communities, adding that investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare and social welfare would continue to receive attention to ensure balanced development.
The governor also urged residents of Gwadabawa to maintain the remodelled mosque and utilise it as a centre for worship, learning, unity and spiritual growth.

He further called on traditional and religious leaders to sustain collaboration with government in promoting peace, tolerance and development across Sokoto State.

Earlier, former Governor of Sokoto State and APC leader, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, commended Governor Aliyu for sustaining investments in religious infrastructure and social welfare programmes.
He praised the administration’s determination in executing developmental projects across the state and prayed for Allah’s guidance and strength for the governor.

Senator Wamakko also urged residents to continue supporting government policies and to remain united in promoting peace and development at the grassroots.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, professor,Jabir Sani Maihulla, commended the governor for prioritising religious infrastructure and called for a maintenance framework to preserve the newly remodelled mosque.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Gwadabawa Local Government, Bala Sani Mai Eka, representing the council chairman, expressed appreciation to the state government for the project. He said the remodelled mosque would strengthen religious activities and ease the burden on worshippers in the area.

He further thanked the government for the numerous developmental projects executed in the local government and appealed for additional interventions, particularly in road construction and other infrastructure.

The ceremony concluded with a two-rakat Jumu’at prayer led by the Chief Imam of the mosque.

Among dignitaries present at the event were the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Engr. Idris Muhd Gobir; Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga; Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa; Chief of Staff, Government House Sokoto, Aminu Haliru Dikko; traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, government officials and residents of Gwadabawa Local Government Area.
