Sokoto State  Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting Islam, Islamic education and religious infrastructure across Sokoto State, declaring that his government will continue to invest in projects that strengthen religious institutions and enhance moral values.
The governor made the declaration on Friday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Illela Central Mosque, one of the activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

Speaking at the event, Governor Aliyu said the mosque project reflects his administration’s dedication to spiritual development, community welfare and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among citizens.
He explained that the commissioning was accompanied by special prayers for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sokoto State and the continued success of his administration.

According to him, the government recognizes the critical role of Islam in fostering peace, unity, discipline and social progress, hence the decision to prioritize the construction, renovation and modernization of mosques across the state.

Governor Aliyu disclosed that several mosque projects have been completed and commissioned within Sokoto metropolis and in various parts of the state, while many others are currently at different stages of completion.

He listed some ongoing projects to include mosques in Goronyo, Hajiya Halima Estate, the Usmanu Danfodiyo university, Sultan Maccido Institute and the historic Sheikh Usmanu Danfodiyo Jumu’at Mosque, among others.

The governor further revealed that his administration plans to extend similar projects to more communities to ensure that Muslims across the state have access to befitting places of worship.

He also highlighted measures introduced to improve mosque administration and maintenance, including monthly operational grants to more than 90 Jumu’at mosques across Sokoto metropolis.

The grants, he said, range between ₦300,000 and ₦500,000 depending on the size and needs of each mosque.

In addition, the governor noted that monthly allowances are being paid to Imams, Mu’azzins and Qur’anic teachers as part of efforts to support religious leaders and encourage the propagation of sound Islamic teachings.

Governor Aliyu said his administration had equally introduced programmes aimed at strengthening Islamic propagation, improving Hajj administration and promoting religious harmony throughout the state.
He called on mosque committees and community members to properly maintain the newly commissioned facility and utilize it as a centre for worship, moral instruction, community engagement and the promotion of peace.

The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts towards national development and prayed for continued peace, stability and progress in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu (Sami Gomo III), described the Illela Central Mosque project as a major milestone in the promotion of Islam and community development.

The monarch praised Governor Aliyu for what he termed his unwavering commitment to religious affairs and the welfare of Islamic institutions across Sokoto State.

He noted that mosque construction remains one of the most rewarding acts of charity in Islam and prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the governor and all those who contributed to the project.

The Emir further lauded the administration’s efforts in constructing, renovating and remodeling mosques and Islamic schools, as well as providing financial support for mosque maintenance and religious personnel.

“Your Excellency, we have never witnessed this level of support to Islamic institutions and clerics. These efforts deserve commendation and appreciation,” the Emir said.

He urged the Muslim community in Illela to make good use of the mosque by promoting religious knowledge, moral values, peaceful coexistence and community development.

The Emir also called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace, stability and prosperity in the country, while seeking divine guidance for leaders at all levels.

The event attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders and residents from within and outside Sokoto State.
