Former aspirant in the ADC primary election for the House of Representatives seat representing Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, and Bunza Federal Constituency, Hon. Bashar Geda, on Saturday formally defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) amidst a massive gathering of supporters and enthusiastic youths in Birnin Kebbi.
The colourful reception, held at Nasarawa One in Birnin Kebbi, attracted party leaders, government officials, youth groups, and supporters from across the state who turned out in large numbers to welcome the politician into the APC.
Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Bashar Geda said his decision to join the APC was informed by the remarkable achievements and inclusive leadership style of Governor Nasir Idris, whom he described as a leader committed to the progress and development of Kebbi State and its people.
He assured the Governor of his total loyalty and support, pledging to work tirelessly for the success of the APC and the consolidation of the gains already recorded by the administration. Bashar also promised to mobilise his supporters and political associates across Birnin Kebbi and beyond to further strengthen the party.
“We have less than eight months to the general elections. I will remain in Birnin Kebbi to mobilise support and ensure victory for Governor Idris,” he assured.
The former federal constituency aspirant commended Governor Idris for fostering an atmosphere that promotes unity, justice, and political inclusiveness, noting that the era of political hostility should give way to cooperation for the overall development of the state.
Receiving the defector and hundreds of his followers, Governor Nasir Idris expressed delight over Bashar Geda’s return to the APC, describing him as a long-time associate, philanthropist, and grassroots politician whose contributions to society have earned him widespread respect.
The Governor stated that Bashar’s decision to join the APC was a testament to the confidence people have in the administration’s people-oriented programmes and developmental projects across Kebbi State.
He maintained that the APC remains the party of the people because of its commitment to service and good governance.
Governor Idris assured the new entrant and his supporters of equal treatment and opportunities within the party, stressing that the APC welcomes all those willing to contribute sincerely to the development of Kebbi State without preconditions.
The Governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of the people through the provision of infrastructure, water supply, education, and other essential services.
During the event, he directed the immediate renovation of a dilapidated school in the area and reaffirmed ongoing efforts to address water supply challenges within the community.
In separate remarks, APC leaders, including the Zonal Vice Chairman of Kebbi Central, Alhaji Shehu Idris, and the APC Youth Leader, Hon. Shafiu Kucheli, described Bashar’s defection as a significant boost to the party.
They attributed the growing support for the APC to Governor Idris’ performance, integrity, and developmental strides.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Land and Housing, Alhaji Sani Soni, highlighted several projects executed by the Governor in the area, including solar-powered boreholes and electricity infrastructure, which he said have positively impacted the lives of residents.
