The Sokoto State Commissioner for Religious Affairs Jabir Sani Mai Hula has praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as remarkable achievements in the religious sector over the past three years, saying the administration’s interventions have significantly improved the welfare of citizens, strengthened religious institutions and promoted peaceful coexistence across the state.
Speaking at a commissioning of Illela central Jumu'at mosque, the commissioner said Governor Aliyu’s administration has implemented numerous projects with direct impact on communities, particularly the renovation and remodeling of mosques across Sokoto State.
According to him, mosques serve purposes beyond worship, functioning as centres for community gatherings, meetings, learning and social interaction.
He explained that the provision of modern facilities such as solar-powered electricity, clean toilets and improved environments in mosques amounts to an investment in the health and well-being of the people.
“By upgrading these facilities, the government is not only improving places of worship but also enhancing community infrastructure and the quality of life of citizens,” he said.
The commissioner noted that the projects were deliberately spread across the state, covering urban centres, local government headquarters and remote rural communities, reflecting the governor’s commitment to ensuring that all residents benefit from the dividends of democracy regardless of their location.
He further commended Governor Aliyu for extending support to Islamic scholars and religious leaders, who he said had for many years been neglected despite their role in promoting moral values, peace and social harmony.
“Our Ulama have consistently preached peace and guided our children towards good character.
The governor’s support has demonstrated that they are valued members of society and deserve attention and assistance,” he stated.
The commissioner also highlighted the administration’s commitment to capacity building among religious leaders through training and retraining programmes.
He revealed that scholars and experts from within Nigeria as well as countries such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt had been invited to train local clerics on peaceful preaching, religious tolerance and coexistence.
According to him, these initiatives have contributed significantly to maintaining peace and preventing religious violence in the state.
He attributed the prevailing harmony in Sokoto to the proactive measures taken by the Ahmed Aliyu administration in collaboration with religious leaders and traditional institutions.
The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Aliyu, local government chairmen, religious scholars and community leaders for their collective efforts in fostering peace, unity and development across Sokoto State.
He reaffirmed the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ appreciation for the governor’s continued support and commitment to advancing religious and social development in the state.
