Gov Aliyu Flags Off 56 New Secondary Schools in Sokoto Under AGILE
Sokoto State Government has kicked off construction of 56 new secondary schools statewide under the *Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu says the project will run for 10 months and target access, quality, and girls’ education.
On Tuesday, engineers from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and AGILE consultants handed over project sites to contractors. Engr. Garba Alhaji, AGILE Component Lead 1.1, said 28 primary schools will be upgraded to Junior Secondary Schools and another 28 JSS will be elevated to Senior Secondary Schools. The goal: expand access in underserved communities.
Each school will get:
12 new classrooms
4 fully furnished labs for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Computer Science
1 multipurpose hall
Solar-powered borehole
14-unit toilet block - 7 for boys, 7 for girls
Murtala Abubakar Chika, Director Planning, Research & Statistics, urged communities and school authorities to protect the facilities from vandalism and maintain them. He said the project reflects Gov Aliyu’s commitment to boosting enrolment, retention, and completion rates for girls.
Contractors assured delivery to specification and on time.
Comrade Muhammad Iklilu, ANCOPSS Sokoto President, praised the Governor and called on principals, SBMCs, and community leaders to monitor work quality.
When completed, the AGILE intervention will rank among Sokoto’s largest investments in secondary education. The aim: more learning opportunities, empowered girls, and a stronger foundation for the state’s future.
