Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, on Tuesday performed the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony for 100 housing units for Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The project, initiated by the Sokoto State Government, is aimed at providing decent accommodation for families displaced by banditry and other security challenges, while improving their living conditions and supporting their reintegration into society.
The ceremony formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration, and underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens and sustainable social development across the state.

Speaking at the event, Goronyo described the housing scheme as a landmark intervention that reflects the government’s determination to restore hope, dignity, and security to displaced persons.

“It is my great pleasure and sense of responsibility to stand before you today at the flag-off ceremony of this important housing project for internally displaced persons in Rabah Local Government Area,” he said.

The minister congratulated Governor Ahmad Aliyu on the milestone, and commended his administration for delivering people-oriented projects that improve citizens’ welfare.

According to him, the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing lasting solutions to the challenges facing displaced communities.

“The establishment of this housing project for internally displaced persons is a clear demonstration of the government’s determination to provide safety, dignity, and hope to citizens affected by displacement,” he stated.

Goronyo noted that the project would provide beneficiaries with a secure and conducive environment, while also serving as a platform for rehabilitation, empowerment, and social reintegration.

He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and complements federal efforts in social welfare, infrastructure development, security enhancement, and economic empowerment.

“These initiatives reflect cooperative governance and underscore the critical role of state governments in translating national policies into practical outcomes that improve the lives of citizens,” he said.

The minister acknowledged the support of development partners and stakeholders contributing to efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development and improved living conditions across the country.

He urged residents of Sokoto State to continue supporting Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration in delivering more development projects and dividends of democracy.

“I have the singular honour and privilege to formally perform the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony for this housing project for internally displaced persons in Rabah Local Government Area. May it provide comfort, protection, and renewed hope for all beneficiaries, and may it continue to advance peace, prosperity, and the well-being of Sokoto State and Nigeria,” he declared.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmad Aliyu said the project was part of his administration’s efforts to provide decent shelter and restore dignity to families displaced by insecurity.

He noted that several communities in Rabah Local Government Area had been deserted due to persistent bandit attacks, forcing residents to take refuge in temporary camps and public facilities.

“We are all aware of the security challenges that have affected some communities in Rabah, leading to the displacement of many families. As a responsible and compassionate government, we have consistently visited these communities, identified with their plight, and provided food items as well as financial assistance to ease their hardship in temporary camps,” the governor said.

Governor Aliyu explained that the housing project represents a decisive step toward providing durable solutions for displaced persons, enabling them to live in safety, comfort, and dignity while rebuilding their livelihoods.

He directed the contractor to strictly adhere to approved specifications and ensure timely completion.

“The government will not tolerate substandard work. The contractor must ensure that the project is executed to the highest quality standards and delivered within the stipulated timeframe,” he warned.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving living conditions for citizens, particularly the most vulnerable.

He called on corporate organisations, development partners, and humanitarian agencies to complement government efforts in supporting IDPs and other vulnerable groups.

Governor Aliyu assured residents of Rabah and surrounding communities that both the federal and state governments were intensifying efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the region.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to addressing security challenges nationwide, and reaffirmed Sokoto State’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, for his support and participation in the flag-off.
