Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has extended warm greetings to the people of Kebbi State and all Nigerians as the nation marks Democracy Day, calling for renewed commitment to patience, prayers, patriotism, and law-abiding conduct.
In a statement issued to commemorate the day, the Governor described democracy as a journey that requires the collective effort, sacrifice, and understanding of all citizens.
He stated that sustaining Nigeria’s democratic system demands continued prayers for peace, stability, and progress, as well as patience with the government as it implements policies aimed at achieving long-term development.
Dr. Idris urged residents to uphold the rule of law, respect constituted authority, and avoid actions capable of undermining public order and social harmony.
“A peaceful and law-abiding society is the foundation upon which democracy thrives. I call on all Kebbi citizens to continue to live in harmony with one another and to report any threat to security through the appropriate channels,” he said.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to improve the living conditions of the people through targeted investments in critical sectors of the state’s economy.
He highlighted ongoing projects in road infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, water supply, and social welfare programmes designed to cushion the effects of prevailing economic challenges.
“Our focus remains on putting the people first. We are committed to policies and projects that will directly improve the standard of living of every Kebbi citizen,” he stated.
On security, Dr. Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace across the state, noting that Kebbi has recorded significant progress in curbing banditry and other criminal activities through collaboration among security agencies, traditional rulers, and local communities.
He pledged continued support for security operations and community policing initiatives to ensure that residents can live and carry out their lawful activities without fear.
The Governor also called for greater patriotism among Nigerians, urging everyone to place the nation’s interest above personal or sectional considerations.
“Democracy gives us the power to choose our leaders and shape our future. We must use that power responsibly and work together to build a Kebbi and a Nigeria we can all be proud of,” he said.
Dr. Idris thanked the people of Kebbi State for their continued support and cooperation with his administration and wished all Nigerians a peaceful, reflective, and meaningful Democracy Day celebration.
