Sokoto Approves N1.65bn Farm Inputs, N1.61bn Motorcycle Scheme for Civil Servants

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the procurement of assorted fertilisers, improved seeds and agrochemicals worth N1.652 billion to support farmers during the 2026 wet season farming campaign.
The approval was announced following the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Sokoto.
According to the Council, the agricultural inputs will complement fertilisers and other farming materials earlier procured by local government councils across the state. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that farmers receive the inputs at the onset of the rainy season to maximise agricultural productivity during the cropping season.
In a separate development, the Council approved the purchase of 1,200 Daylong motorcycles valued at N1.609 billion for civil servants under a loan scheme.
The initiative fulfills a promise made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during this year's Workers' Day celebration, aimed at easing transportation challenges and improving the welfare of public servants in the state.
The Council also approved the upgrading of Gagi Primary Health Centre to a General Hospital at a cost of N592.12 million, a move expected to enhance access to quality healthcare services for residents.
Similarly, approval was granted for the construction of a Primary Health Care Centre in Majemar Korino, Tudun Wada area of Sokoto South Local Government Area, at a cost of N143.46 million. An administrative block at the Primary Health Care Centre on Kontagora Road was also approved at a cost of N192.91 million.
To address critical infrastructure needs, the Council approved the construction of emergency concrete works and the reinstatement of collapsed culverts and drainage canals behind the Rima Radio/Tudun Wada road network at a cost of N246.98 million.
In the aviation sector, the Council approved the installation and maintenance of the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at a cost of N113.44 million, a project expected to improve operational safety and airport efficiency.
The approvals reflect the state government's continued commitment to agricultural development, workers' welfare, healthcare improvement, infrastructure renewal and the modernization of critical public facilities across Sokoto State.
