Sokoto Police Nab Drug Baron, Foil Bandit Attack, Recover Cattle

Sokoto State Police Command recorded two major wins in less than a week: arrest of a suspected drug baron with hard drugs, and disruption of a bandit attack with rustled cattle recovered.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2026 at 7:00 PM, a Bado Division patrol team on stop-and-search along Kebbi-Sokoto Road intercepted two men on an unregistered Daylong motorcycle. One suspect, Ummaru Abubakar Gugare, 40, from Bagarawa, Bodinga LGA, was arrested. The second, Ummaru surname unknown, escaped.
Police recovered a sack of suspected Indian Hemp and 10 rubber containers containing Axzol Tab, Benthexol Tablets B.P 5mg, and D5 Tablets - all controlled drugs. Exhibits are in custody and a manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.
On Friday, May 30, 2026 at 3:00 AM, bandits invaded Zabori, Tambaranga, and Gidan Yero villages in Wamakko LGA, bordering Tangaza.
The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit mobilized and blocked their escape route at Abdalo Forest, Gwadabawa LGA, A gun duel followed.
Police overpowered the gang, forcing them to flee with bullet wounds. One suspect, Musa Usman of Damba Village, Illela LGA, was arrested. 11 cows and 5 sheep were recovered for identification and return to owners. Tracking of fleeing bandits continues. Both cases are under investigation.
CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, psc, mnips, commended Bado patrol team and Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
“These are significant blows to criminal cartels - whether drug barons or armed bandits,” he said.
He urged residents to share credible intelligence and report anyone with fresh bullet wounds or suspicious livestock deals.
